"...while remembering the past."

Our first church building was a meeting house which was "raised" amidst great festivity on June 30, 1762 at a cost of 71 pounds, 13 shillings and 4 pence.

A replacement edifice was raised about 30 years later on the same site in 1796, and in 1815 the 874 pound steeple bell was purchased from Paul Revere and Sons and installed in that second meeting house.

The present church building - the third - was, in turn, built at the north end of the common and was first used for worship on March 6, 1838. The Revere bell was moved to the steeple of this church about this time. In 1884 the present church building was moved to its present location after the erection of the Goodnow Memorial Library crowded the original site.

Since 1762, our church "ancestors" have passed the responsibility and stewardship of our church home from generation to generation. Each generation before ours has accepted that responsibility and continued the tradition of maintaining our church as a part of the strong foundation of our town.

Princeton's approaching 250th Anniversary Celebration in 2009 will give us all opportunities to look back on all that has gone on in the town's rich history and our church's part in it.

Our church is an important meeting house, not only for our congregation but for all of Princeton and beyond. It's the home of the Princeton Community Preschool. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts hold regular meetings here as do other organizations. We host homeless families for two weeks out of the year as a member church in the Interfaith Hospitality Network. These are a few of the ways that our church makes a difference in the community.

Churches typically hold Capital Campaigns to handle major upkeep of the building and grounds every 10 years. This is our first in almost 20 years and there are a lot of projects that have been put off for far too long. We have a number of major projects, such as replacement of our antiquated furnace, insulating and repainting the entire church, restoration of our 105 year old Cole Tracker Organ, and a number of smaller but equally important projects.

Few congregations are large enough to fund these types of projects on their own. We need the help and support of the greater Princeton community and beyond to continue to provide spiritual as well as general support to our friends and neighbors. Please consider making a contribution to our capital campaign and helping us to continue a vital 245 year old Princeton tradition!

Projects Update: 10/20/2009

Our Capital Campaign is moving along slowly due to these difficult economic times but thanks to some wonderful donations we're getting some of our major projects completed.

New Boiler! - Summer 2007

The first was to replace our ancient furnace with one that works better and is considerably more energy efficient.

Repainting and Re-siding! Siding Removed and Insulation Blown into the walls - Summer 2008
It was wonderful to see this part of the program started! For the first time in the church's long history we'll have an insulated sanctuary. We'll save a lot on fuel as well as being able to bring the sanctuary up to a comfortable temperature in the winter a lot faster on Sunday mornings!

For those of you who drive through the center of town, you may have noticed that the exterior of the church has been in need of a major repainting for several years and we're happy to say that it's finally being taken care of! Last week the north side of the church had its siding removed and insulation blown into the wall, something we've needed for a long, long time.

Tyvek'd and Starting to Re-side - Summer 2008
And here comes the new siding!

Fresh Paint! - Fall 2009
The fall of 2008 and the spring, summer and fall of 2009 saw more work done on the entire exterior. The education wing was re-sided and had new windows installed. The image linked above is the main pre-school entrance and shows the rebuilt, attached oil tank room with its new roof and siding. Work continues on the painting of the trim on the front of the church and is almost complete!
